Tampa native Antwand Howard has completed the Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program, one of the military’s most academically elite programs.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Howard now serves as a nuclear electronics technician. Howard uses radar and other complex systems to detect and track threats. He also uses electronic countermeasure tricks to confuse and deflect other radars and sensors to throw others off a ship’s scent by making it virtually invisible.
“I joined the Navy for college assistance and job experience,” Howard said. “I also joined because I’m a nerd with electronics.”
Howard is a graduate of East Tampa’s Middleton High School.
