Contemporary Challenges to Im/migrant Rights

May 19 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

Dr. Elizabeth Aranda (USF) discusses the current political climate engulfing im/migrants’ lives, challenging their rights to work, to obtain health care, to travel, to worship in community, and to carry on with their everyday lives. Recent laws, instilling fear in im/migrant communities, have led some to simply leave the state. This talk will discuss the implications of these laws and what we all stand to lose.
Presented alongside the Smithsonian’s “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America,” an interactive exhibition that explores American democracy from revolution to civil rights and beyond, running March 23 – May 19. Free admission, free refreshments, and chance to win 4 tickets to a Tampa Bay Rays game and other prizes!
