Tampa has miniscule young population despite affordability

The Tampa Bay area has the second smallest young population among U.S. cities with below average living costs, according to a study from Porch.

The study revealed that only 34.1% of the area’s population is under the age of 30, despite the cost of living in the metro area about 1.2% below the national average — an oddity as affordable cities have become popular among younger age groups.

Researchers ranked 200 metropolitan areas with below average living costs according to the percentage of the population under 30 and included cost of living, 1-bedroom rent and earnings data for each location.
