Increasing adult independence at the Autism Acceptance Center

by The 100 Companies

Many adults with autism are underemployed or unemployed, but the Autism Acceptance Center in Tampa is helping change that. Its Autism Awareness Shop (AAS) teaches employees with autism about all aspects of the retail world, from customer service and running the register to staging merchandise and online fulfillment.

The store will soon expand with two greenhouses growing vegetables and flowers, which will also be sold at the shop, and workers will learn horticulture skills. You can support the organization’s vocational program and thrift store by shopping there for gently used merchandise – from clothes to collectibles – as well as donating items.
