Bay scallop season extended to 37 days in Pasco County

by The 100 Companies

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has temporarily modified the 2023 bay scallop season in Pasco County to provide extended harvesting opportunities from 10 days to 37.

This year’s scalloping season will now run July 1 through Aug. 6. The Division of Marine Fisheries said the extension will increase economic benefit throughout the region.

The extension follows a pilot approach in 2017-2020 establishing regionally-specific regulations while also maintaining the sustainability of local scallop populations, which extended the harvest area to include Pasco County in 2018. The Pasco zone includes waters south of the Pasco-Hernando line and north of the Anclote Key Lighthouse.
