‘Brain Building Summer’ gives preschool parents tips on teaching critical skills

The Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County is sharing a new campaign, “Brain Building Summer,” with more than 100 preschools and childcare centers in the area.

The campaign aims to provide tips to parents on how to ready their children for school in the fall.

Data shows half of kids in the Tampa Bay area are not ready for kindergarten because they lack basic skills, such as letter sounds and number counting, needed to succeed when they start school.

The campaign focuses on three points – maintaining routines, playtime as learning time and sensory utilization – not just using electronics or television.
