Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed three members to the Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas County.

The appointees include Elizabeth Loh as Chair, Chris Scherer and Elliot Stern.

Scherer, a real estate developer, is running for Pinellas County Commission in District 1. He’s the only Republican in the race to replace Democrat Janet Long, who is not seeking re-election, and flip the seat from blue to red. He faces Democrat Joanne “Cookie” Kennedy, if no one else enters the race.

Scherer previously chaired the St. Petersburg Development Review Commission. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University.
