Tampa General Hospital surpassed a new milestone in lung transplants.
Tampa General Hospital completed its 700th adult lung transplant on Oct. 2, after performing its first in 2002.
Only four systems in the state perform the surgery. The Center for Advanced Lung Disease and Lung Transplant Program at TGH utilizes a multidisciplinary approach, which produces survival rates that meet or exceed national statistics, according to data from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients in July 2021.
Both single and double lung transplants are performed at TGH. The transplant program specializes in adult patients who’ve been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis and pulmonary fibrosis.
