Valrico native to honor fallen military with Ceremonial Guard

A Valrico man will spend this Memorial Day honoring fallen soldiers as part of the Navy’s elite Ceremonial Guard.

Petty Officer Third Class Jose Figueroa Berrios is qualified as a casket-bearer and for the firing squad. Casket bearers carry fallen sailors to their resting ground. The firing party renders the 21 Gun Salute. 

T he Ceremonial Guard represents the Navy in Presidential, Joint Armed Forces, Navy and public ceremonies, often appearing before foreign dignitaries and royalty, and some of the most powerful leaders in the country. The Guard is made of the drill team, color guard, casket bearers and firing party.
