Winner and Loser of the Week

Winner: Rhea Law. The University of South Florida announced it has selected Law to be the school’s president. Law took over last year as interim president and said then she wouldn’t pursue the permanent job. That she changed her mind is good news for USF, given Law’s business, civic and political contacts.

Loser: Tampa Bay Times. The federal government refiled a $2.8 million lien against the parent organization of the Tampa Bay Times. The issue is the Times’ under-funded pension plan, which has been an ongoing problem. A $30 million lien and a $7 million lien were refiled last year.
