Tampa’s Pete Alonso believes he is the best power hitter on the planet. After his performance in Monday’s Home Run Derby at Coors Field, it is hard to argue with the New York Mets’ first baseman on that.
Alonso won his second consecutive Derby by cranking 74 home runs — 6.35 miles in distance — over four rounds in the competition to win $1 million.
Alonso attended Tampa’s Jesuit High School for two years before transferring to Plant High for his final two years. The Mets took him in the second round of the 2016 draft out of the University of Florida.
