Rays struggling to find early season form

Since starting the season 29-7, one of the best starts in Major League Baseball history, the Tampa Bay Rays have been mediocre.

The Rays slipped out of first place this month for the first time this season.

Why? Pitching injuries have played a significant role.

Right-hander Drew Rasmussen was lost for the season with an elbow injury while ace Shane McClanahan missed time with a back injury, although he is expected to return.

If the Rays’ pitching can hold up, they can make a run at the division. If not, it’s likely to be a wild card season at best.
