Hillsborough County is offering free mosquito fish to residents through September in an effort to reduce those pesky blood-suckers.
What are mosquito fish? They’re small, native freshwater fish that act as pest control by eating mosquito larvae. They can be placed in standing water, including unused swimming pools, to manage local mosquito populations and control the spread of mosquito-borne disease .
And, they require no feeding — you just need protect them from chemicals. The fish don’t lay eggs and don’t special environment for breeding.
The fish are being provided on Saturdays throughout the summer. The schedule can be found here.
