The area’s newest pro football team got off to a rousing start Monday as the Tampa Bay Bandits dominated Pittsburgh 17-3.

It was the inaugural game for the Bandits in the four-team United States Football League, modeled after the USFL that existed from 1983-85. The original Bandits played in that league.

All games in the USFL this season will be played in Birmingham.

Bandits quarterback Jordan Ta’amu hit his first five passes and finished with 185 yards on 32 attempts. He had one touchdown and two interceptions.
Running back BJ Emmons scored the Bandits’ first touchdown on a 3-yard run.
