Scallop season has begun for Big Bend coastal areas and will continue until September 24.
Scallops are part of the mollusk family found in shallow seagrass beds along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Locally, Crystal River is one of the most popular scalloping spots where you will find boaters throughout the season hunting for these delicious little sea creatures.
With a mask and snorkel, people of all ages can easily spot and catch the scallops. Each person is limited to two gallons of scallops per day—which is more than enough to create your perfect summer scallop dinner. Find more information here.
