American Stage puts a new spin on Shakespeare’s “original rom-com,” “Much Ado About Nothing.” This exuberant interpretation is set in the Florida Keys near the end of WWII and features the sharp-tongued Beatrice and Benedick, who are determined to avoid love at all costs.
Beatrice fights against the expectations placed on her because she’s a woman. Benedick has just returned home from war and doesn’t want to be tied down.
The battle of the sexes explores gender roles, infidelity and deception. “Much Ado” will run from Nov. 8 to Dec. 10. Purchase tickets at the door or online.
