U.S. Olympic softball takes silver, bested by Japan

“Go For The Silver” isn’t what the U.S. Olympic softball team had in mind, but it’s what they got. Host Japan beat the U.S. 2-0 in the gold medal game Tuesday in Tokyo.

It was the second time in the Olympics that Japan got the best of the U.S. in the championship game, which was held in 2008.

Softball is not scheduled to be part of the competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but could return for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.

The U.S. team was coached by Ken Eriksen of the University of South Florida.
