Hurricane prep: Keeping communities safe

Last year’s active hurricane season proved how a major storm can cause severe damage to communities. With this in mind, it’s important that board members of master-planned communities take precautions for resident safety. Here are our top tips:

– Have a plan before a storm threatens. Develop a hurricane policy and distribute the information to residents.

– Secure vendors for pre- and post-hurricane needs. Make agreements with vendors for tasks like trimming trees beforehand to make sure they’re available when help is needed.

– Prepare for extensive power outages. Develop alternatives for communications if phones and the internet are not working.
