Long before the term “selfie” came along, artists were creating self portraits.
A new exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, “This is Not a Selfie: Photographic Self-Portraits from the Audrey and Sydney Irmas Collection” features 150 years of self portraits. The works showcase themes of self reflection, performance and identity.
In addition to 80 inventive photographs on display, there will be stations where visitors can take selfies with backdrops like fun house mirrors. Visitors are invited to share selfies using #notaselfieMFA.
The exhibit – from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art – runs Aug. 25–Nov. 25.
