To know Al Lang Stadium only for its views of downtown St. Petersburg and the waterfront does a disservice to the region’s oldest and most historical professional sports venue.
Built in 1947 as the New York Yankees’ Spring Training home, it’s also been home to the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Baseball royalty like Stan Musial and Willie Mays have graced its diamond.
Al Lang is now home to the Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer team, with plans to renovate the stadium even more if the team is awarded a Major League Soccer expansion bid.
