Internationally acclaimed scientist tapped to lead microbial oncology program at Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute

Dr. Robert. C. Gallo, member of the National Academy of Sciences, co-discoverer of HIV and discoverer of the first human RNA virus linked to cancer, has joined the team at Tampa General Hospital.

He will lead research focused on identifying the ties between certain cancers and microorganisms as founder and director of the Microbial Oncology Program and senior scientific advisor to the executive director at the TGH Cancer Institute.

Dr. Gallo is internationally recognized as a two-time Albert Lasker award winner and the most referenced scientist in the world between the 1980s and 1990s, among other accomplishments.
