CareerSource Hillsborough Pinellas will host an Opportunity Youth Workforce Summit on Oct. 1 at the Tampa Marriott Water Street.
Federal agencies define “opportunity youth” as people between 16 and 24 who are disconnected from school and work. There are 26,100 young people in Hillsborough and Pinellas who meet this criteria, part of a nationwide trend showing young people who are disconnected from employment and education “represent a loss of human capital, with high social and economic costs.”
The summit will foster discussions between leaders in business, education, and nonprofits, developing solutions to reengage these young people in the local economy.
