Hillsborough Schools referendum ‘yes’ campaign to kick off amid legal uncertainty

The Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association, Hillsborough Education Foundation, Hillsborough Schools Employee Federation, parents, students, business and community leaders launched the Vote Yes for Students campaign.

A proposed referendum, which would authorize a $1 per $1,000 of assessed value property tax, would provide an estimated $177 million per year for $6,000 teacher and administrator raises, and $3,000 for support staff.

But the referendum’s fate is unclear after Hillsborough County Commissioners voted to postpone the referendum. The county sued. They received word that the Judge would not set a hearing and instead would rule by Monday, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
