Downtown St. Petersburg’s “First Block” – with its funky assortment of bars, restaurants and the Jannus Live concert venue – could be leveled to make room for another tower.
A move to create historic status for the block, which was the first block built in the city, failed in a City Council vote earlier this month.
Many hope to protect this block from the wrecking ball. It would be a smart move: As Creative Loafing’s Linda Saul-Sena writes, the city needs both a skyline and a soul. Send a message to City Council to encourage them to save the historic block.
