Tampa General Hospital and the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine announced Wednesday that the TGH Transplant Institute recently completed its 1,500th successful adult heart transplant.
TGH said the milestone makes it the No. 1 hospital in the state and the nation for “high-volume, high-quality heart transplant operations.”
It is one of nine medical centers in the country to cross the 1,500 mark. More than 12,000 transplant operations have been conducted at the TGH Transplant Institute since it was founded in 1974. In 2021, surgeons at the institute performed 563 heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas and other organ transplant surgeries.
