In the spirit of trying new things this year, I found myself suspended from the ceiling of Yoga Downtown Tampa by a swath of yellow fabric.
Aerial yoga – sometimes called swing yoga – follows the same principles as mat-based yoga, but classic poses are deepened with the help of a swing. It’s playful, which encourages relaxation and fun. Hanging upside down also decompresses the spine, making aerial yoga ideal for those who have neck issues or sit at a computer all day.
Bottom line: Don’t be intimidated. There were lots of beginners, and classes are available for all skill levels.
