Hillsborough deputies arrest man who stole diesel fuel after he nearly struck them

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kiusler Perez Ortiz, 24, for diesel theft and striking a deputy’s vehicle on July 20.

Ortiz was spotted at a closed Mobil gas station on Hillsborough Avenue, siphoning 93 gallons of diesel fuel. When approached, he fled, hitting an unmarked HCSO vehicle and nearly striking a deputy.

A pursuit ensued, which ended in Ortiz’s arrest in Pinellas County.

He faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude and reckless driving.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the deputies for their quick and effective resolution of the situation, ensuring safety.
