TGH and USF Health first in Tampa Bay with new ultrasound tech

USF Health neurosurgeons at Tampa General Hospital are using a new, innovative procedure – Focused Ultrasound – for the first time in the region.

The new tech offers promising treatment for people suffering from essential tremor (ET), Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders. The minimally invasive method is FDA-approved, and is typically done on an outpatient basis.

“This creates new opportunities to help patients with essential tremor and other neurological conditions who haven’t fully responded to traditional treatments,’’ said Dr. Oliver Flouty, assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and Brain Repair at USF Health and a neurosurgeon at Tampa General Hospital.
