Tampa Bay winners and loser of the week

WINNER: Timothy Ubben. He gave the USF Foundation $5 million to create the Ubben Family Center for Pulmonary Fibrosis.

The center will conduct research on the lung disease under USF’s Morsani College of Medicine. Ubben also gave USF $1 million in February to fund  a pulmonary research lab.

LOSER: Tampa Bay inflation rate. The 8% inflation rate for the Tampa Bay area is the highest in the nation.

Bloomberg News reported consumer prices are up 6.8%, the fastest rise in about 40 years. The Federal Reserve says it’s a temporary trend that should soon subside, but it’s not good now.
