Tampa Bay area leads state in September job growth

The Tampa Bay area added the most jobs in September of any other region in the state, according to data announced Friday by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

The area added 84,600 new private-sector jobs over the year – a 7.2% increase. And the area’s unemployment rate fell to 3.9% in September, down from 6% one-year ago at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Top job growth occurred in professional and business services, with 26,800 new jobs; and leisure and hospitality, with an increase of 24,900 jobs.

Statewide, 73,000 jobs were added in September and unemployment fell 0.1% to 4.9%.
