When the Morean Arts Center opened in 1917 as the Art Club of St. Petersburg, it was the first art gallery south of Atlanta. A group of artists seeking space to work, teach and show their art collaborated on a space initially on Beach Drive.

The Morean has carried that mission of unifying the community through art for 100 years, and has since expanded to include the Morean Center for Clay and the Chihuly Collection.

An exhibit this summer celebrated the anniversary with works from 100 artists, while upcoming exhibits will feature area artists like Casey McDonough and Kenny Jensen.
