All the condo and apartment construction in St. Petersburg is an exciting sight. But there’s a problem: If the city truly wants to be a place where people can “live, work and play,” it needs places for “work.”
There’s a severe lack of quality office space downtown. In fact, much of the vacant space is in run-down “zombie buildings,” with disinterested owners who offer low rents and outdated surroundings to match.
The result? Most residents drive elsewhere to work. As the city thinks of possibilities for the Tropicana Field site, it’s important to consider office space in the mix.
