Former USF standout Shane McClanahan said he’s ready to go as the Rays’ Opening Day starting pitcher this Friday at Tropicana Field against Baltimore.
The Rays made McClanahan the No. 31 overall selection in the 2018 draft. This is his first Opening Day starting assignment.
“It means a lot,” he said. “With how talented this clubhouse and this locker room is, it really is a big honor.”
McClanahan, 24, is the youngest Rays’ Opening Day starting pitcher since Scott Kazmir in 2007.
As a rookie in 2021, he was 10-6 with a 3.43 ERA, and 143 strikeouts in 123.1 innings pitched.
