Legislature directs $35M to Pasco County for Rays spring training complex

by The 100 Companies

Pasco County is set to receive $35 million to start construction on a sports training complex – a future site for the Tampa Bay Rays spring training – with funding granted by the Legislature’s state budget.

The funding is set to be used for planning and construction of a sports training and youth tournament complex, accommodating youth sports programs throughout the year, and serving as spring training center for the Rays.

The team currently leases a facility in Port Charlotte, but that agreement expires in 2028. The funding likely is a priority of Senate President Wilton Simpson, who is based in Pasco County.
