Tampa’s Jesuit High School pulled off a dramatic fourth-quarter rally Saturday and defeated Pensacola Pine Forest 35-29 to win the Class 6A State Football Championship.
The Tigers trailed 29-14 late in the third quarter but rallied in the final period to secure the school’s first football state title since 1968. Quarterback Luke Knight found Jadyn Girard on the game-winning seven-yard touchdown pass with 37 seconds left. Jesuit finished the season 15-0.
“I can’t even put it into words,” Jesuit coach Matt Thompson said.
Two other Tampa prep teams – Tampa Bay Tech and Berkeley Prep – advanced to their respective title games, but fell short.
