U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor has announced that the Tampa International Airport will receive $21.7 million in new federal funds under the recently signed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Castor said the funding will help ensure that TIA “remains one of the one best airports in the world,” calling it “one of our most important economic engines.”

TIA will receive the funding over the next five years, as part of a program for airport development. In addition to the guaranteed funds, TIA can compete with other airports across the country for grants from an additional $5 billion fund for terminal improvements.
