The Tampa Bay area has a new junior college football team that is preparing for its inaugural game this upcoming Saturday.
The Florida Community Christian Spartans play MTI at Lakeland High School’s football stadium. That will be the Spartans’ regular home field.
FCC is an online school that was founded in 2019. The 70-player team practices at Temple Terrace United Methodist Church in Tampa.
The Spartans are coached by Ronnie Ghent, who was a standout three-sport athlete at Lakeland High and an all-conference player at Louisville before playing in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints.
