Pinellas and Pasco Counties affordable homeownership program lands $3M

by The 100 Companies

A program aimed at addressing the lack of access to affordable homeownership in Pinellas and Pasco Counties is in line to receive $3 million in the 2024-25 fiscal year budget after the House and Senate agreed on identical funding requests for the program.

The funding, requested by Sen. Ed Hooper and Rep. Kim Berfield, would benefit Habitat for Humanity projects, which allow individuals to purchase homes with a 30-year, 0% interest mortgage. Buyers never pay more than 30% of their income on housing through the program.

Funding would be for engineering and infrastructure costs, and to offset property acquisition costs.
