Lawmakers are preparing for extra innings this Session, so what does that look like?

by Sally Schroder

Lawmakers in Tallahassee will not have an agreed-upon budget by the end of the 60-day Legislative Session. It’s the only task they’re constitutionally mandated to complete.

The chambers are in a stalemate over tax cuts.

The current budget covers the state’s bills through June. A new budget must be in place by July 1.

The Legislature or Governor could call a Special Session, or Senators could vote with a 3/5 majority to extend Session. That would likely come down to how close the House and Senate are in reaching a budget deal – if they’re close, extending would be the likely choice.
