‘Kitten Season’ Strains Animal Shelters

by

Many cats give birth in the spring, and they can continue to have several litters through the fall. Unplanned litters result in “kitten season” at area animal shelters and place a strain on their resources.

Help ease the burden on local shelters during kitten season:

Spay or neuter your cats. Cats can become pregnant as young as 5 months old.

– Support trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) programs like MEOW Now, which works to reduce overpopulation by spaying and neutering stray cats in Pinellas County.

– Become a foster parent. Provide a nurturing environment for animals not yet old enough for adoption.
