Florida Aquarium launches plan to save African penguin

by Margaret Willard

The African penguin population contains just about 10,000 breeding pairs in South Africa and 4,000 in Namibia, the lowest numbers ever recorded as the species faces food shortages and various human disruptions.

To save the species from extinction, the Florida Aquarium is leading an international conservation movement, partnering with South Africa’s Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation and #NOOW (Not on Our Watch) on a public awareness campaign.

“We hope that through our leadership, other aquariums and zoos will be motivated to engage their visitors to inspire change and action,” said Florida Aquarium Senior Vice President of Conservation Deborah Luke.
