Medical teams at Tampa General Hospital have successfully completed the 100th robotic bronchoscopy, a minimally invasive technique used to treat lung cancer.
It’s the second most common type of cancer in the U.S. among men and women, causing more than 127,000 deaths last year.
“Ion is now proving to be a substantial weapon in the war on cancer,” TGH Medical Director Dr. Alberto Goizueta said. “The Ion robot has unquestionably improved our ability to biopsy small peripheral nodules with excellent accuracy. This has allowed us to diagnose patients with lung cancer much earlier, which ultimately leads to better outcomes.”
