The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) launched an aggressive driving crackdown campaign ahead of the Fourth of July.

With the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Tampa Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and other local agencies, the “Target Zero” campaign aims to reduce dangerous crashes.

The agency said about eight people die every day on Florida roads, according to News Channel 8. Another 49 are seriously injured. The crashes are preventable.

“I don’t want to have to go knock on someone’s door and tell them a loved one isn’t coming home because of someone’s poor driving behavior,” FHP Sgt. Steve Gaskins said.
