Artist Benny Andrews used innovative collage techniques to portray life in America and advocate for social change. A master of mixing styles and mediums, he was adept at portraying the struggles and triumphs of everyday life.
An exhibition of his work is on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg. Andrews explores the human condition and themes like injustice in different ways, from paintings with dramatic colors, incorporating materials like buttons and jeans, to powerfully simple line drawings.
