USF standout center Russel Tchewa battling visa problems

Even though the academic year has started, USF men’s basketball starting center Russel Tchewa remains in his native Cameroon,  awaiting approval of his student visa.

Tchewa, a 7-foot, 280-pound junior, averaged 8.0 points and 5.7 rebounds last season. He was one of the most improved players in the American Athletic Conference.

“We’re not sure why this has been delayed,” USF Coach Brian Gregory said. “There may be some information we’re not privy to, and it would be haphazard to guess why.”

Meanwhile, Tchewa is taking online classes, and he is scheduled to graduate in December and pursue his master’s degree.
