The Rays participated in an experiment at Charlotte Sports Park to speed up the game.

It’s a system developed by PitchCom, where the catcher calls for the pitch electronically. The transmitter attaches to a sleeve on the catcher’s forearm. The pitcher has a receiver inside his cap, as does the second baseman.

The catcher calls for the pitch by pressing a button on the transmitter.

The system was used last year in a minor league, but Saturday was the first time it was used in a major league game.

“It’s something I’m really intrigued with,” Rays catcher Mike Zunino said.
