Before a raucous home crowd at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center, the University of Tampa women’s volleyball team captured the program’s fourth national championship.

The Spartans defeated Washburn University in three straight sets on Saturday with a school-record attendance hosting 1,854 fans. The University of Tampa Spartans previously secured the national title in 2006, 2014 and 2018.

With 34 wins, this marks the most since 2014 for UT.

The university now has 20 national championships from its varsity athletic teams.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor was a two-sport athlete at UT – volleyball and basketball. She is in UT’s athletic Hall of Fame.
