USF completed perhaps its most impressive week in its women’s basketball history, defeating a pair of Top 10 opponents at a Bahamas tournament and narrowly missing a third one.
They were tied with second-ranked UConn entering the fourth quarter before falling 60-53. The team shook that off, however, and knocked off No. 9-ranked Oregon 71-62 and then took out defending national champion Stanford 57-54.
“That five-game stretch was difficult on us,” Coach Jose Fernandez said.
The victories propelled USF to the No. 18 national ranking, up from No. 23 the week before. They return to action Thursday at UT-Arlington.
