The University of South Florida baseball team awoke at just the right time, and because of that, the Bulls won their first NCAA regional championship in school history.
USF won the Gainesville Region as the fourth-seed out of four teams. The Bulls defeated top-seeded Florida and second-seeded Miami before beating South Alabama 6-4 in the championship game at Florida Baseball Park.
It capped a remarkable comeback by the Bulls. On May 21, USF’s record was a puny 22-26, but they won nine of their final 11 games, including an 8-7 win over UCF in the American Athletic Conference championship game.
