Tampa Mayor Jane Castor will face her first re-election campaign this year, four years after defeating the late philanthropist David Straz by a landslide in what was the city’s costliest mayoral race ever.
So far, the competition looks insignificant, but that could change as the new year gets rolling and, if it does, could signal a continuation of the red wave voters saw in Hillsborough County in November.
2023 will also deliver a big decision from Castor on a new Police Chief, a move that will face scrutiny after criticism of her former hire who resigned amid negative national headlines.
